A little about Dr. Hernandez Drozdowicz's background

After graduating from medical school her initial goal was to become a reconstructive surgeon and work on burn patients and patients with deformities that needed reconstruction. During the end of her 2nd year in general surgery training she broke her arm falling off of a rolling chair while on call. Working very long hours in the program she did not realize she had a fractured bone for a month. By then complications had set in from using a wrist that was not stabilized by a cast. Over the next 6 months she had 3 casts applied and underwent a surgery to try to fix the issues in her wrist. She had a lot of time on her hands to think about her future since she was not able to operate while in a cast. It was clear not long after the surgery that she was not going to be able to continue training in surgery for several reasons including pain and weakness.

She enjoyed seeing the trauma patients return to the clinic for follow up after they had recovered from whatever injury had brought them to the trauma bay. She chose to enter a training program for PM&R back in Philadelphia at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania and graduated from their program in 2006. She then did a Brain Injury Rehab fellowship back in California at Kaiser Vallejo from 2006-2007 to be closer to her family. She has worked in several acute rehab facilities and was the Medical Director at Rogers City Rehab Hospital in Northern Michigan from 2012-2014 until it closed. She now focuses on her private outpatient practice in Petersburg, Virginia. She also does inpatient consults at Southside Regional Medical Center. Her diverse training and background give her a unique perspective on thinking outside the box to treat her patients.
